What is Reiki?
Many people have heard of Reiki but have no idea what it actually is.
Letβs break it down & answer the question: What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing modality dating back to the early 1900s. Dr. Mikao Usui is credited with rediscovering the system we now call Reiki.
Rei = Universal Life | Ki = Energy
Reiki works by tapping into the bodyβs electromagnetic field. Reiki works on several layers of the human biofield (more on that below). The Reiki practitioner harnesses the clientβs energy field to move the energy through the body; alleviating any stuck points or energy blockages.
A session is usually 45-60 minutes and performed in-person or at a distance. Some practitioners use gentle touch to perform Reiki, but I hover my hands very closely and do not touch the body directly.
How can Reiki energy work over distance? This is a great question and has more to do with the nature of energy and the constraints of space (or, lack thereof). According to Sage Journals, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) found a significantly lower heart rate and blood pressure with distance Reiki after caesarian section. I will get more into the science of how Reiki works in my next post! Subscribe to my newsletter at the bottom of the page if you want the post in your inbox.
Reiki energy resonates at a high frequency and can provide the body with the awareness it needs to address the dissonant storage and transmute it so the body can defragment and be restored to its natural way of being. The mechanism by which Reiki works involves several layers of the human biofield, a term used to describe the complex network of energy fields that surround and penetrate the human body.
Scientific research and Reiki posits that this practice may influence the bodyβs energy fields in several ways:
Electromagnetic Interaction: The human body is inherently bioelectrical. Nerve impulses and muscle contractions are all governed by electrical signals. Reiki practitioners may influence this bioelectrical system, promoting balance and flow of energy.
Quantum Physics and Entanglement: Some theories suggest that healing energy, such as Reiki, operates on a quantum level. The principle of entanglement could explain how distant healing works, with the healer and the recipientβs energy fields interacting beyond the limitations of time and space.
Resonance and Entrainment: Just as a tuning fork can cause another to vibrate at the same frequency, Reiki might work by bringing the bodyβs energetic frequency into a state of harmony. This could explain the increase in vibrational frequency observed in individuals who receive Reiki treatments.
Reiki works by tapping into the human bodyβs electrical and magnetic fields. Our heartbeat is regulated by an electrical field that can be measured by an ECG or EKG, our brain produces a lower-level electrical field, and every cell in our body creates small amounts of electricity which contribute to a magnetic field, due to the positive and negative charges of the outer and inner cell walls. When you go to get an MRI scan, the internal mechanism producing the images of soft tissue is your bodyβs magnetic field.
Practitioners donβt cause the healing, they simply serve as a channel for the energy to move in the client.
A Reiki practitioner harnesses the clientβs energy field to help move energy throughout the bodyβalleviating any energy blockages.
Many clients report feeling great relaxation and a release of tension through Reiki. Check out my testimonials pg to see how my clients feel after their sessions & working with me.
